With an acidic pH level, the body has difficulty absorbing minerals and nutrients. Tumors thrive. Fatigue and sickness increase. The body also has trouble repairing damaged cells with an acidic pH level. Simply put, the body has difficulty doing what it normally does.
           
In order to counteract this, people have to eat foods that help the body keep its natural pH level. These foods are fresh citrus, vegetables, nuts and legumes, among others. Pure water is a better beverage choice than soda, which is already acidic. Caffeine can be harmful as well, as it can lower the body's pH level. When the human body has the correct alkaline base, the body's natural healing processes become that much more effective.
           
This is not to say that the right kind of diet can replace proper medical care, however. Many ailments do require medicine. When the body is able to process nutrients, recovery time is shortened. In this way, it is possible to look at illness as something temporary which will not be around forever. The body's natural defenses are already strong enough to deal with a variety of problems; it only requires the right intake of food to maximize its efficiency.
